New AKC Obedience Regulations

The AKC has made changes to regulations for Novice, Open, Graduate Novice, Graduate Open, Team, and Veterans classes effective May 1, 2018 so these will be the new rules at the time of our specialty.  If you plan to show in Novice A /B, Veterans, or Team classes, be sure that you have a six-foot leash for the new group stay exercises.  If you plan to show in Open, familiarize yourself with the new “Command Discrimination” exercise.  Individual stay exercises have been added to Novice, Open, Graduate Novice, and Team classes.

You can access the new regulations from this link:  http://images.akc.org/pdf/events/obedience/Revisions_to_the_Obedience_Regulations_Effective_05-01-18.pdf

The AKC has announced that videos of the new exercises will be available on their YouTube channel shortly.

About the Flat-Coated Retriever

A determined hunting dog with a small head and mouth can retrieve a large bird, but will not be able to hold it as gently and securely and retrieve repetitively with as much stamina and longevity as the dog with the long head, long muzzle and large, strong jaws.
