Specialties would not be possible without the tremendous effort of a small group of volunteers who work tirelessly to put on the best possible dog events. Our Texas group is very small, and the Specialty Committee includes members from all over. We still need more volunteers!!!  The Chairs would like to express our deepest thanks to our committee chairs, club members, and volunteers who will be working hard behind the scenes. There’s still so much more to do, but we are on the way to bringing you 7 great days of competition, education, and camaraderie Texas Style.

Ad size: 4.5” x 7.5” (Catalog size is 5.5” x 8x5”

Camera-ready submissions are preferred in pdf format.  Word format will be acceptable.

If submitting in Word format the photo must be submitted as a separate file. Digital photos MUST be a minimum of 300dpi in jpg format.  Word documents will be converted to PDF. Camera-ready submissions deadline is February 26, 2020

Hard copy submissions will also be accepted. Please include a sketch of how the ad should look.  Ad will be created and converted to PDF format—one proof will be created, and one set of changes will be accepted.  Hard copy ad deadline is February 19, 2020

Ad copy and payment must be received by the deadline to be included in the catalog.

Silent Auction

As with any Specialty, we must find many ways to help support the costs of this great event.

This year, we plan to have both the traditional Silent Auction and Daily Drawings! You can support the Specialty by donating a gift card, merchandise, or cash to purchase auction items.

Some item ideas are:

  • Themed Baskets – Creating a basket is as simple as choosing a theme, finding some
    interesting items and placing them in a basket or themed container. Beverages, food,
    cooking, State-themed baskets or Club baskets are just a few ideas. Check out Pinterest for some great ideas for silent auction baskets.
  • Gift Cards – Gift cards are an easy way to contribute and they don’t take up a lot of room! Gift cards can be added to other items in your themed basket, or we will be happy to combine a collection of gift cards in a “Gift Card” silent auction basket.
  • Art Work – works of art are among our best auction items – especially artwork featuring our beloved breed.
  • Travel and Experiences – Travel and experiences create a ton of excitement at silent auctions. Consider donating spa days, brewery tours, ski passes, museum, movie, or sport tickets, golf outings or theme park tickets, weekend getaways, hotel stays, or even airline miles.
  • All Things Canine – agility, obedience, and rally equipment, toys, treats, collars, etc.
  • All Things Flat-Coat –many of us can’t resist Flat-Coat items: apparel, ornaments, drinkware, jewelry, tote bags, and magnets are just a few of the items to consider donating. Etsy and eBay have some great items that would make wonderful donations.

We hope this list gets you excited and thinking about donating to our silent auction. If you have questions or additional ideas, please contact anyone on our committee. You can also use the donation link or information form on the silent auction page on the Specialty website.

Quilt Raffle

We have a beautiful Past Specialties Logos T-Shirt Quilt created by Caroline Baihly and Katie Bruesewitz.   Since this is a one of a kind, tickets are limited to 150 tickets at $25 each and they may be purchased on line at the Specialty Store,  or if any are left, at the Specialty.  Early purchases will be filled out and placed in the drawing basket by the Show Chairs. You do not need to be present to win.  We can mail it to you.

Welcome Party and Veteran’s Sweepstakes , Monday, April 13, 2020

Make sure that your plans include the Welcome Party starting at 5 pm on Monday, April 13.  It will have a Mexican Fiesta flair and we will also celebrate our Veterans at this time with Veteran’s Sweepstakes. Fiesta foods will be available ringside and a cash bar will be open so you can watch, socialize and show off our wonderful Veteran flat-coats!

 

Scurry

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday - times to be announced

A Scurry is a social event for our dogs.  Classes will be divided by age and sex.  You may run once or all three days at any time you wish. It is also a chance to let your dogs have some fun retrieving.

For $5, you get 3 bumpers…..distances will vary according to the age classes.  This is a timed event and the speediest flat-coats will be awarded prizes at the Awards Banquet.   The times will be averaged in groups of the 3 runs.  WE WILL BE LOOKING FOR SOME VOLUNTEERS TO HELP WITH THIS EVENT!!!

 

Buffet Dinner and Annual Meeting, Wednesday, April 15

Join us in the MPEC Grand Ballroom for a buffet dinner with Cash bar available.
The person wearing the OLDEST SPECIALTY LOGO ITEM will win a special prize…..dig deep into your closets!

 

Exhibitor and Breeder Conversation  - Thursday, April 16 following the day’s judging

Join us for a relaxed, give and take discussion of type and quality in flat-coats.  Bring dogs you would like to discuss or just come to learn.  This was started last year in Oregon and we want to continue the tradition.

Award Banquet, Friday, April 17

Join in the Awards Celebration in the MPEC Grand Ballroom.

Field Awards Dinner, Saturday, April 18 

Celebrate the Steady and Unsteady Stakes winners with an  informal barbecue dinner at the field venue - The Kerr Cattle Company Ranch.  Be sure you bring your own chairs and any special beverages.

Throughout our journey with our dogs, we collect so many things that bring back special memories of our time together. These keepsakes can warm our hearts while looking through them as our companions continue through their journey and they can remind us of special times with those that have passed. Since our Specialties only come once a year, those commemoratives can be extra special and we hope everyone will be as excited about this year’s trophies and ribbons as we are.

These beautiful rosettes and memorable trophies are a large part of the Specialty Costs so your support is very important and we just know everyone will want to contribute to the fun!!! Not to mention, we all know the thrill of seeing our names in the catalog as a sponsor!!! So, please donate and sponsor - this is your chance to share in the special memories shared with our flat-coat family and to donate with dedications in memory or honor of special dogs, special people, or special memories that are always in our hearts. All sponsorships received by February 28, 2020 will be featured in the catalog. We will also post a complete list of sponsorships on our website so even if you miss the catalog deadline you can still sponsor and share in creating the memories of the 2020 National Specialty!

Volunteer!

The Show Committee has worked very hard to get us to this point!  However, we are a very small group and putting on an event this large requires some volunteer help.  Please consider “giving back” by helping with our endeavor.  The Agility Trial will have a Google Doc Spreadsheet found in the Judging Program, but you are also welcome to let us know that you will be available to help that day.  Thank you in advance!!!!!
